Meet Your Guide
From Bonds to Boundaries
Healing is the process of returning to yourself.

My name is Helen Brooks.
For twelve years, I existed in the intense gravity of an NPD/BPD relationship. Today, I write as someone who has successfully broken the trauma bond and stepped back into the light of their original, cheerful self.
I’m a trauma recovery specialist, researcher, and survivor who has dedicated over a decade to understanding the neuroscience of trauma bonding, the psychology of narcissistic abuse, and evidence-based pathways to complete emotional freedom.

My Story
The 12-Year Journey
Twelve years is a long time to live in hypervigilance. During that decade, I slowly lost the things that defined me: my laughter, my connections with friends, and my belief in my own perception of reality. I wasn’t just in a relationship; I was in a cycle of intermittent reinforcement that felt impossible to escape.
“
When I finally left, I realized that the “breakup” was only the beginning. The real work was in deconstructing the trauma bond—the biochemical addiction to the cycle of pain and rescue.

Evidence-Based Recovery
My Path to Recovery
Clarity Over Chaos
Understanding the clinical patterns of BPD and NPD to stop the self-blame and start the healing. Knowledge became my first tool for liberation.
Nervous System Safety
Using somatic tools and lifestyle changes to move out of fight-or-flight and into genuine calm. My body had to learn safety again.
Reclaiming Identity
The practice of finding the “original self” that existed before the trauma took over. I learned I wasn’t broken—I was buried.
